Lipodissolve, also known as fat dissolving injections or injection lipolysis, is a cosmetic procedure that involves injecting a solution into targeted areas of the body to break down and dissolve fat cells. While lipodissolve is a widely used procedure, it's important to note that its safety and efficacy have been a topic of debate within the medical community. The information provided here is based on the knowledge available up until September 2021, and it's always advisable to consult with a qualified medical professional for the most up-to-date information and personalized advice. Here are some potential risks and aspects of recovery associated with lipodissolve:

Risks:

• Allergic reactions: Some individuals may have an allergic reaction to the injection solution used in lipodissolve. It's crucial to discuss any known allergies or sensitivities with your healthcare provider before the procedure.

• Inflammation and swelling: Injection sites may experience temporary inflammation and swelling following the procedure. This can last for a few days to a couple of weeks.

• Bruising and pain: Bruising and localized pain are common side effects of lipodissolve. These effects typically resolve within a few days or weeks.

• Uneven results and contour irregularities: The distribution of the injected solution can be unpredictable, which may lead to uneven fat reduction or contour irregularities in some cases.

• Skin irregularities: Lipodissolve may cause skin irregularities such as lumpiness, dimpling, or changes in skin texture.

Recovery:

• Downtime and healing period: The recovery period varies depending on the individual and the treated area. Some individuals may experience minimal downtime, while others may need a few days to rest and recover.

• Post-treatment care: Your healthcare provider will provide specific instructions for post-treatment care. This may include avoiding vigorous exercise, massaging the treated area as advised, and following a healthy diet.

• Gradual results: The process of fat breakdown and elimination takes time, and results from lipodissolve are typically seen gradually over several weeks to months. Multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired outcome.

• Maintenance and lifestyle changes: Lipodissolve is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. To maintain the results, it's important to follow a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and maintain a stable weight.

• Follow-up appointments: Your healthcare provider may schedule follow-up appointments to assess the progress, monitor the results, and determine if additional treatments are needed.

How does lipodissolve work ?

The procedure involves injecting small volumes of a mixture of phosphatidylcholine (PC) with deoxycholate (DC) and vitamins (some areas). A small needle is used to minimise pain/discomfort to patients and a whole area can be treated with only a few injections.

How long do the results last?

The results are permanent as our body does not produce new fat cells as adults. Nevertheless, significant weight gain following the procedure may cause the results to look unsatisfactory as the remaining fat cells can significantly increase in volume and cause a similar presentation as before the treatment. So, we highly encourage any patient that undergoes this treatment to continue a healthy diet and regular physical activities to avoid weight gain.
